The Salesian Academy of St John Bosco

Welcome

It gives me great pleasure to introduce myself as the Headteacher for the Salesian Academy of St John Bosco. I look forward to getting to know you as we work in partnership to ensure that your child thrives and flourishes in all areas of life.

I was educated within this area, attending St James Primary School ( now called All Saints) and St Augustine's High School, both in Bootle where I was born and raised. My previous role was as a Deputy Headteacher in Kirkby where I helped to lead the school from an Ofsted Inadequate to a Good judgement in 2021. I was instrumental in raising standards to ensure that the school gained the trust of their partner primary schools as well as parents and carers; the number of first choice applications increased yearly and the school is now full and oversubscribed. I know that my experience to date, working alongside the existing committed and hardworking staff and the new staff recruited, will ensure that we continue our improvement work to secure the highest of standards in learning and learner outcomes.

I have a very clear vision for our academy. It will become the number one school of choice in the local area. It will be an academy characterised first and foremost by our faith and the strength of our Salesian and Catholic values. In the words of St John Bosco alongside ‘letting them know they are loved’, I will provide an environment for all pupils in which they will be able to develop their many talents, pursue their academic and personal excellence, remain healthy and safe and, ultimately, make positive contributions to society.

We will be recognised for having an ambitious and inclusive curriculum for every pupil, excellent teaching in every classroom with high aspirations for all. Academic excellence, exemplary behaviour and the maintenance of high standards will be achieved by a culture of care and encouragement, and with support from you - our parents and carers.

In September 2025 we will move into our new school building that will be situated on our current site and I look forward to sharing the exciting details of our plans in the Autumn term.

It has been a pleasure to meet a number of you already. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you wish to visit the academy whether you are a new parent/carer or an existing one. I am committed to working with you, in partnership, to ensure all of our children experience the outstanding education they deserve.

Kindest Regards

Mrs Sue Bourgade
